There are a few places where I think they could improve and become an even better vegan option in Canada. For starters they need to bring back Beyond Nuggets. That was such a glorious summer. Even better would be Beyond Nuggets with some vegan dipping sauces. It would also be great if they had any vegan options for kids (hey, you know what they’d probably love? Beyond Nuggets.) And while we’re on the topic of definitely needing to bring back Beyond Nuggets, please please please bring back the Beyond Breakfast Sausage. I’ll take it in links or a patty. Just give me something other than hash browns in the morning.

The only place I knew for sure I could go to was Bow & Stern, a seafood restaurant I used to enjoy before I went vegan. I knew though there would only be one thing on the menu, a poke bowl. So I was locked into that choice if I went there. But again, it was 1 o’clock and I hadn’t eaten breakfast. I needed food ASAP.

Which is how I accidentally found the best vegan poke bowl I’ve ever had.

It took me over a year from first hearing about Just Egg until I actually tried it. And to be honest, it would have been longer but I happened to walk past it half price in my local grocery store one day when I was feeling particularly “oh why not” and throwing everything in my cart. I had just seen Rescue Dog kitchen using it, and thought if it’s good enough for John, it’s something I have to try.

The tiny walkable village of 3,400 people has more than a few vegan options which might come as a surprise. But one of the ones that cannot be missed is Maria’s Gelato & Cafe. Specifically the gelato. It is PHENOMENAL. You can taste the fresh ingredients, and it’s somehow more fulfilling than ice cream.
